SEATTLE, Wash. – Alaska Anchorage junior Cody Thomas used five school records to book his flight to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the heptathlon Saturday at the University of Washington Invitational.
A local of Blenheim, New Zealand, Thomas – who set new UAA records in the 60 meters (7.01) and in the high jump (6-8.25) on Friday – broke more records Saturday for an automatic NCAA qualifying score of 5,338 in the heptathlon. Thomas bested his previous best of 4,904, set last year, and posted 38 more points than the required automatic mark of 5,300.
Thomas used school records of 8.27 in the 60-meter hurdles – also a provisional NCAA qualifying time – and a 12-9.5 height in pole vault. Additionally, Thomas posted a career-best 1,000-meter time of 2:47.89.
Meanwhile, the Seawolves received a PNQ time from sophomore Jamie Ashcroft in the 60 meters, where she sprinted to a time of 7.68.
UAA will return home before heading right back to Seattle for the Husky Classic, Feb. 13-14 and the Husky Open, Feb. 15.
