HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – With two-point nights from senior Blake Tatchell and freshman Jeremiah Luedtke, the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves opened Western Collegiate Hockey Associate play with a 3-3 tie at Alabama Huntsville, Friday night at the Von Braun Center.
After leading 2-0 after 20 minutes of play, the Seawolves – now 3-1-1 on the short season – allowed three unanswered goals in the second period, before Tatchell netted the game-tying goal in the third to salvage the point. With just a handful of conference games played, the Seawolves and Chargers (1-1-1) are tied for fifth in the standings.
UAA started the night with a pair of power play goals in the opening stanza. Collecting his first collegiate tally was Luedtke at 12:12, before sophomore forward Matt Anholt netted his second on the season at 16:38 – putting UAA 100% on the last four power plays.
The Chargers, who are 2-0-1 against UAA in the last three games, received tallies from Cody Marooney (2:08), Brennan Saulnier (6:38) and Josh Kestner (7:35), all in the first eight minutes of the second to take the lead.
Tatchell's league-leading point came at 2:50 of the second. One of UAA's assistant captains, Tatchell is tied for No. 1 in the overall WCHA stats with Luedtke, each with seven points. Luedtke in return leads the league's freshmen, while Anholt sports a five-game point streak and is tied for No. 2 – giving UAA three of the top six scorers in the conference.
The Seawolves went into extra minutes for the second time of the season, but couldn't find the win.
UAA ended the game 2-for-3 on the power play, while being perfect on the penalty kill, stopping UAH on all five attempts.
