SEATTLE, Wash. – The Alaska Anchorage men's and women's indoor track & field teams furnished four provisionally NCAA qualifying times Friday at the prominent Husky Classic, hosted by the University of Washington.
Competing against major Div. I programs, the Seawolves received a provisional time from both the men's and women's distance medley relays. The women's team, comprised of Jessica Pahkala, Rosie Smith, Haleigh Lloyd and Beatrice Decker combined for a time of 11 minutes, 44.78 seconds. The foursome improved upon their previous PNQ time of 11:53.85 and will likely qualify for the NCAAs with the new time.
In the men's DMR, Philip Messina, Adam Commandeur, Nathan Kipchumba and Michael Mendenhall crossed in a time of 9:59.90, bypassing the needed PNQ time of 10:07.52.
UAA also collected a PNQ time from sophomore Jamie Ashcroft in the 200 meters. Ashcroft, who already had a PNQ time in the 60 meters, posted a time of 24.80, which was .26 of a second faster than the required provisional time.
Lastly the Seawolves' Amy Johnston improved upon her PNQ in the 5,000 meters with a new time of 17:18.25. Prior to today, her best was 17:24.12.
The Seawolves continue action tomorrow with the second day of the Husky Classic before a larger group of student-athletes compete in the Husky Open on Sunday.
