ANCHORAGE – A two-goal game by Tanner Kero and Malcolm Gould led the No. 5-ranked Michigan Tech Huskies to a 10-0 shutout of the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves Saturday in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game at the Sullivan Arena.
Combined with a 5-1 win Friday, the Huskies collected the league sweep with five goals in tonight's opening period and five in the third. The Seawolves fall to 7-17-4 overall and 4-16-2 in league play. UAA trails ninth-place Lake Superior State in the league standings by three points, while having two games in-hand on the Lakers.
The Huskies' five even-strength tallies in the first were netted by Tanner Kero (1:42), Gould (3:47, 9:37), Brent Baltus (9:51) and Mark Auk (18:01). Following the fourth MTU strike, the Seawolves replaced freshman netminder Olivier Mantha for sophomore Michael Matyas.
Kero picked up his second of the night at 5:55 of the third on a delayed penalty, before Dylan Steman (9:29), Alex Petan (11:59), and Chris Leibinger (14:04) contributed with their own even-strength tallies, and Patrick Anderson (15:42) got the lone power-play tally.
The Seawolves conclude the regular season road slate, Feb. 20-21 at Bemidji State. UAA will then return home for back-to-back series against Bowling Green (Feb. 27-28) and Alaska Fairbanks (March 6-7).
