SEATTLE, Wash. – The Alaska Anchorage men's and women's indoor track & field teams capped off the weekend with two provisional NCAA qualifying times, two school records and 12 top-10 performances at the University of Washington's Husky Open on Sunday.
The Seawolves, who spend the last two days competing at the Husky Classic, furnished a combined eight provisional NCAA qualifying (PNQ) times this weekend in Seattle along with three new school records.
Qualifying provisionally for the NCAA Championships – which is March 13-14 in Birmingham, Ala. – were freshman Henry Cheseto and sophomore Scott Commandeur on the men's side. Cheseto cruised to victory in the 3,000 meters with a time of eight minutes, 18.59 seconds – UAA's fastest this season – while Commandeur finished third in the 800 meters with UAA's second-fastest time of 1:52.74.
The Seawolves' two school records came curtesy of Rosie Smith and Alexia Blalock. Smith, from Bartlett HS, broke her own UAA record in the 60-meter hurdles with a new time of 8.79. Meanwhile, Blalock set a school record in the triple jump with a leap of 37-3.25, besting teammate Karolin Anders' previous mark of 36-10.5.
Next up, the Seawolves head to Nampa, Idaho, for the GNAC Championships, Feb. 20-21.
