BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves men's and women's indoor track & field team wrapped up with 2015 NCAA Div. II Indoor Track & Field Championships with two more All-Americans in juniors Cody Thomas and Karolin Anders Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
At the conclusion the two-day championships, the Seawolves amassed six All-America honors and bested five school records in just their third season participating in the indoor competition. Since 2013, the Seawolves have combined for 26 All-America finishes. The women's team finished 43rd with three points, while the men's team – made up of just Thomas – finished 28th with eight points.
After leading the heptathlon field after Day 1, Thomas finished runner-up with a school record 5,488 points -- the second best mark in GNAC history. Overall, Thomas, from Blenhiem, New Zealand, furnished four UAA records on the way to his first heptathlon All-America finish and second career All-America result.
In the final three events, Thomas posted a time of 8.46 in the 60-meter hurdles, a school-record jump of 13-5.25 in the pole vault and a time of 2:47.54 in the 1000 meters. Additionally, Thomas set UAA records in the 60 meters (6.97) and high jump (6-10.25) on Friday.
Wining the event was Azusa Pacific's Justin Balczak with 5,606 points.
Meanwhile, Anders collected her fifth career All-America honor by taking seventh in the pentathlon with school-record 3,822 points - also good for second-best mark in conference history. A local of Berlin, Germany, Anders now has three straight All-America honors in the pentathlon and two in the heptathlon from the outdoor season. In the pentathlon, she finished fourth in 2014 and fifth in 2013.
Today, Anders posted a personal-best of 9.23 in the 60-meter hurdles. The current two-time GNAC champion in the pentathlon, Anders also posted a time of 2:21.30 in the 800 meters after going 5-6.5 in the high jump, 37-9.5 in the shot put and 17-10.25 in the long jump.
On Friday, the Seawolves also received an All-America finish from the women's distance medley relay, which took eighth. Making up the team were senior Haleigh Lloyd and juniors Rosie Smith, Jessica Pahkala and Beatrice Decker.
