LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Alaska Anchorage men's and women's outdoor track & field teams concluded the 2014 UNLV Randall Cunningham Track Classic Saturday with a combined 13 individual victories.
The Seawolves – who received an automatic NCAA qualifying throw from senior Franz Burghagen in the men's javelin on Friday – produced multiple solid results Saturday in their first meet of the outdoor season.
Highlighting the day was the men's mid-distance crew that placed four runners in the top 10 of the 1500 meters. Winning the event was junior Dominik Notz (Dettingen, Germnay) with a time of three minutes, 54.09 seconds, bypassing Nick Meis (4:03.99) of Red Rock Running Company.
In the sprinting events, freshman Darrion Gray furnished two individual wins in the 100 meter and 200 meters. Gray, a graduate of Dimond HS, posted a time of 11.03 in the 100 and 22.04 in the 200.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, the Seawolves received two victories in freshmen Alexia Blalock and Tamara Perez. A local from Oahu, Hawaii, Blalock posted a jump of 37-8 in the triple, while Perez (Hendaye, France) posted a time of 4:42.35.
The Seawolves will continue action in the Lower 48 of the Spring Break vacation when they compete in Eagle Rock and Fullerton, Calif., March 13-14.. Additionally, the indoor slate will come to an end the same weekend with eight Seawolves competing at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
