AZUSA, Calif. – Four members of the Alaska Anchorage men's and women's outdoor track & field teams were in competition Wednesday in Day 1 of the 45th annual California Invitational Combined Events, hosted by Azusa Pacific.
On the women's side, the Seawolves were represented by junior All-American Karolin Anders (Berlin, Germany) and Anchorage local junior Rosie Smith. After four events in the heptathlon, Anders sits at No. 23 with 2,908 points, while Smith is No. 24 with 2,833 points.
In the men's competition, Seawolf newcomers Travis Turner and Connor West, sit 12th and 16th, respectively. Turner, a junior from Stockton, Calif., has amassed 3,230 points in five events of the decathlon, while West has registered 2,352 points.
Anders top finish of the day was the high jump, where the 2014 NCAA heptathlete runner-up posted a jump of 5-6, good for a tie at sixth. Additionally, Anders posted times of 15.72 in the 100-meter hurdles and 26.39 in the 200 meters, while going 34-7.5 in the shot put.
A Bartlett high graduate, Smith furnished a ninth-place result in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.55, while going 25.59 in the 200 meters. She also registered a toss of 33-6 in the shot put and 4-8.75 in the high jump.
In the decathlon, Turner took seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 51.22. His other marks were; 11.64 in the 100 meters, 19-11 in the long jump, 34-2 in the shot put and 5-11.25 in the high jump. Meanwhile, West, a freshman from Newhall, Calif., crossed the finish line at 11.66 in the 100 meters and 52.52 in the 400 meters. He also collected a 17-11 long jump, a 26-10.5 shot put and a 5-4.25 high jump.
The second day of multis continue tomorrow morning for the four Seawolves, while UAA will also see action in the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
