Anders rallies for All-America honor in heptathlon

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Capturing her sixth career All-America honor was junior Karolin Anders in the heptathlon as the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves wrapped up Day 2 of the 2015 NCAA Div. II Outdoor Track & Field Championships Friday at Grand Valley State Stadium.

In the second day of competition, the Seawolves received their second All-America honor in Anders, while sophomore Jamie Ashcroft and junior Jessica Pahkala and competed in the prelims of the 200 meters and 800 meters, respectively.

At the conclusion of the heptathlon, Anders rallied to finish eighth with 5,092 points. A native of Berlin, Germany, Anders used a season best 117-7 in the javelin to move up from 11th, where she stood after four events. Additionally in the final three events, she finished eighth in the 800 meters at 2:22.40 and 13th in the long jump at 17-6.

With one year of eligibility remaining, Anders already has three All-America honors in the indoor pentathlon and three in the outdoor heptathlon, including a NCAA runner-up performance in the heptathlon from 2014.

In the prelim races, Ashcroft (Shawnigan Lake, B.C.), who already qualified for the finals in the 100 meters, finished 16th in the 200 meters with a time of 24.69. Meanwhile, Pahkala (Wasilla HS) took 18th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.47.

UAA recieved an All-America finish Thursday from junior Dominik Notz in the 10,000 meters where he finished fourth.

The Seawolves will wrap up their 14th straight year of NCAA participation tomorrow with the men's javelin (10:15 p.m.), women's 100 meters (11:25p.m.), women's 400-meter hurdles (12:10 p.m.) and the men's and women's 5,000 meters (1 p.m.). All times Alaskan.
