ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Alaska Anchorage Seawolves concluded the final day of competition at the 2015 NCAA Div. II Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday with three more All-America honors at Grand Valley State Stadium.
The Seawolves wrapped up the 2014-15 season with All-America honors in seniors Haleigh Lloyd and Franz Burghagen and sophomore Jamie Ashcroft. Combined, UAA amassed five All-America accolades throughout the three-day meet.
Ending her collegiate career with her second career All-America honor in the 400-meter hurdles was Lloyd. A local of Ladysmith, B.C., Lloyd bested her Great Northwest Athletic Conference record with a time of 59.17 – .03 faster than her previous best (59.20). Lloyd was also an All-American at the 2012 national meet where she finished seventh.
A Shawnigan Lake, B.C., native, Ashcroft became the first UAA athlete – male or female – to capture All-America honors in a sprinting event, finishing sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.65 – just .01 off the GNAC record she set in the prelims Thursday at 11.64. Additionally, she is the first GNAC women to ever score a point in the 100 meters at the national meet.
In the men's javelin, Burghagen collected his third career All-America result, taking fifth with a toss of 223-11, which was furnished on his second attempt. A local of Berlin, Germany, Burghagen also finished runner-up in the event a year ago and third in 2013.
Also competing in the javelin was junior Cody Parker, from Comox, B.C. The NCAA champion from 2013, Parker produced a toss of 216-2, good for ninth.
Meanwhile in the 5,000 meters, the Seawolves received an 11th and 12th-place finishes from junior Dominik Notz and freshman Henry Cheseto, respectively. Notz finished in a time of 14:54.90, while Cheseto crossed the line at 14:59.33. In the women's 5K, senior Amy Johnston finished 20th with a time of 17:30.31. Johnston, from Salinas, Calif., also competed in the 10,000 meters Thursday with an 11th-place result.
Joining Lloyd, Ashcroft and Burghagen with All-America honors were juniors Notz in the 10,000 meters (4th) and Karolin Anders in the heptathlon (8th). Overall, the Seawolves have 48 all-time All-America honors since 2006 in their 14th straight NCAA appearance.
