ORONO, MAINE – Freshman
Alex Frye scored his first career goal for Alaska Anchorage in a 7-1 loss at Maine Friday.
The Black Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring at 1:14 and 4:25 of the first period.
Frye cut the Maine lead to 2-1 when he fired a shot from the slot that deflected off a defender and past goalie Jeremy Swayman at 10:40 of the first period.
Tanner Schachle and
David Trinkberger each assisted on the goal.
The Black Bears lead grew to 5-1 thanks to a three-goal second period.
Maine added two power-play goals in the third to complete the scoring.
"Despite getting down early I thought we respond well and pulled with a goal," said head coach
Matt Curley. "Some defensive mishaps and penalties got us into trouble in the second period and it got away from us, but I thought some guys played well and showed signs of what we are capable of. It will serve as a good learning experience heading into tomorrow night."
Tim Doherty (two goals, one assist), Eduards Tralmaks (one goal, two assists) and Emil Westerlund (three assists) all finished with a game-high three points for Maine.
UAA was out-shot 38-21.
Kristian Stead made 31 saves for the Green and Gold.
Jeremy Swayman finished with 20 saves for Maine.
UAA was 0-for-2 on the man advantage, and UM was 2-for-7.
The two teams will close out the weekend series Saturday.
