ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Alaska Anchorage freshman Brayden Camrud scored the first goal at the Seawolf Sports Complex but Alaska Fairbanks scored twice to claim a 2-1 victory in game one of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup.

"I am obviously disappointed in the result," said head coach Matt Curley. "Coming out of it, we feel good about how we did, especially the third period. We will take a look at things to clean up on our end, come back a better team and look to earn the split."

Brayden Camrud intercepted a poor clear from Fairbanks in its own defensive zone and then scored his first career goal with a high shot on Anton Martinsson at 15:43 of the first period.

The Nanooks tied the game with a goal in the final minute of the opening period. The Nanooks fired several shots on goal before Max Newton scored at 19:14.

Tristan Thompson scored the game-winning goal with a low shot on the power play at 9:38 of the second period. Colton Leiter and Eriks Zohovs assisted on the goal.

The Seawolves nearly tied the game with 3:30 left in the third when Alex Frye had a breakaway short-handed, but Anton Martinsson made the save.

UAA led 27-25 in shots and finished 0-for-4 on the power play. UAF was 1-for-4 on the man advantage.

Kris Carlson finished with 23 saves for UAA.

The two teams will close out the weekend series Saturday at 5 pm.
