Wicks scores twice in Seawolves win

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Freshman Nick Wicks scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead Alaska Anchorage to a 4-0 win over Alaska Fairbanks in game two of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Saturday.

After a scoreless first period, Nick Wicks fired a wrist shot past UAF goalie Anton Martinsson at 8:58 of the first period. Tomi Hiekkavirta and Taylor Lantz each assisted on the power-play goal.

Taylor Lantz and Tomi Hiekkavirta used some crisp passing to set-up Tanner Schachle for his first goal of the season at 14:33 of the second period.

Tomi Hiekkavirta recorded his third assist of the game when his pass found the stick of Nick Wicks who buried it for his second goal of the game, and second on the powerplay, at 17:36 of the second. Rylee St. Onge recorded his first career point with an assist.

Alex Frye completed the scoring for the Seawolves with his second goal of the season on a breakaway at 9:55 of the third period. Nick Wicks recorded his third point of the evening with an assist, and Eric Sinclair earned his first point of the season with an assist.

As impressive as the UAA offense was tonight, Kristian Stead was equally impressive stopping 29 shots for his second career shutout.

The Nanooks led 29-26 in shots.

UAA was 2-for-4 on the power play and held UAF 0-for-4.

The Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup is now tied at 1-1 with the final two games of the series taking place in Fairbanks on Feb. 28.29.

Alaska Anchorage will host Nebraska Omaha in a non-conference series Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
