SCOUTING REPORTS: Great American Conference member Arkansas Monticello ran off a 7-game win streak after dropping its season opener to Augustana, and came back for an 86-82 GAC home win over Henderson State in its most recent game ... the Weevils are led by Marcus Gilbert (15.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 4.2 apg, .534 FG, .444 3FG, .741 FT) and KJ Lesure (14.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 7.3 apg, .868 FT) ... ranked No. 21 in the NABC poll and No. 22 in the D2SIDA poll, Southeastern Oklahoma State was an NCAA Second Round qualifier last year, posting a 23-8 overall mark ... the Savage Storm started this year with five straight wins before falling Dec. 14 at GAC rival Southern Nazarene ... the Durant, Okla., squad features five double-digit scorers, led by Kevin Buckingham (19.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.8 apg, 2.3 spg, .515 FG, .412 3FG, .792 FT) and Kayo Goncalves (16.7 ppg, 8.9 rpg, .574 FG, .571 3FG) ... UAA went 11-4 vs UHH as a Pac West member from 1992-2001 ... series predates Div. II membership ... first meeting as D-II programs was a 95-77 Hilo home victory, Feb. 6, 1978.
 
COMEBACK WINS START GNAC PLAY: The Seawolves got Great Northwest Athletic Conference play off to a perfect start in dramatic fashion, beating Concordia-Portland 81-74 and knocking off Western Oregon 88-86 in overtime, Dec. 5 and Dec. 7 at the Alaska Airlines Center ... against the Cavs, Sr. G Tyrus Hosley exploded for a season-high 22 points (6-9 FG, 4-5 3FG, 6-6 FT), along with 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Sr. G Jack Macdonald came off the bench with 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-5 3FG) to help erase a halftime deficit and fend off a late CU charge ... Sr. F Niko Bevens added 11 points (3-4 3FG), while Jr. Gs DeAndre Osuigwe and Amari Hale dished 6 assists apiece in UAA's fifth straight win over CU ... on Saturday, Jr. C Oggie Pantovic had career-highs of 20 points (10-17 FG) and 13 rebounds, and Macdonald swished the game-winning 3FG at the buzzer in overtime to complete a thrilling win over the Wolves ... Bevens scored 19 points (5-14 3FG), Osuigwe had 6 points, 6 assists and 12 rebounds, and Hosley finished his big weekend with 16 points, no turnovers and 6 assists, including on the game-winner, as UAA ended with a 9-0 run over the final 2:15 of overtime.
 
TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves stand No. 4 in this week's D2SIDA West Region poll ... UAA leads the GNAC in assists per game (21.1) and 3FGs per game (11.8), while ranking 2nd in scoring defense (70.2), turnover margin (2.20) and assist/turnover ratio (1.8) ... in the NCAA Div. II national stats, the Seawolves are 5th in assists, 7th in A/T ratio, 14th in 3FGs per game and 29th in turnovers per game ... the 11.8 3FGs per game are easily on pace for the second-highest average in program history, trailing only the 2013-14 squad's 13.0 3FGs/gm ... the 18 three-pointers in UAA's win over Coast Guard marked the 7th-most in program history against an NCAA opponent.
 
BALANCING ACT: The Seawolves have not relied on star power to achieve their success so far, getting at least 7.0 points per game from seven players and at least 3.6 rebounds per game from five players, with no one averaging more than 27.2 minutes ... Sr. F Niko Bevens is one of four players in Div. II currently shooting at least .500 from long range with at least 3.75 made per game ... the Beaverton, Ore., native leads the GNAC with 3.8 3FGs  per game (12th nationally), along with ranks of 15th in scoring (13.8 ppg), 4th in 3FG% (11th nationally) and 8th in A/T ratio (3.0) ... Bevens broke UAA's single-game record for 3FG% (min. 6 attempts) against Coast Guard, sinking 8 of 9 treys in front of a nationally televised audience on ESPNU ... after averaging 3.4 ppg in a reserve role as a true freshman, So. G Tobin Karlberg has emerged as UAA's 4th-leading scorer with 10.2 ppg ... the former local Grace Christian HS star has tallied double figures in five games thus far, posting GNAC ranks of 5th in A/T ratio (3.5) and 20th in 3FG% (.400) ... with his big game in the win over Western Oregon, Jr. C Oggie Pantovic became the first Seawolf to tally at least 20 points and 13 rebounds since Corey Hammell posted 24 and 15 against Chaminade on Nov. 13, 2015 ... Pantovic is the only Seawolf in the GNAC top 10 in scoring or rebounding, currently 9th with 6.6 rpg ... the transfer from Utah State-Eastern ranks 11th in the league with a .565 FG% and 6th with 0.9 blocks per game ... Jr. C David Riley is 8th in the GNAC with 0.8 blocks per game leads the Seawolves in FG% at .577 ... Sr. G Jack Macdonald delivered a season-high 18 points in the win over San Francisco State and dished a career-high 8 assists (with no turnovers) in the victory over Sonoma State ... the CoSIDA Academic All-District performer is putting up 9.2 ppg, boosted by .459 3FG shooting ... in the GNAC stats, Macdonald leads with 17-of-17 FT shooting, and is 8th in A/T ratio (3.0, 34th nationally), 13th in assists (3.0 apg), 11th in 3FG% and 19th in 3FGs per game (1.7) ... UAA has gotten a major contribution from all five of its transfers thus far, including the backcourt trio of Sr. G Tyrus Hosley, Jr. G DeAndre Osuigwe and Jr. G Amari Hale ... Hosley, from Northwest Christian, is the team's 3rd-leading scorer at 10.5 ppg and holds GNAC top-15 ranks in assists (7th, 3.7 apg) and A/T ratio (10th, 2.8), while his 4.1 rpg are 4th on the team ...  from State College of Florida, Osuigwe is No. 2 in the GNAC with 5.0 apg, and has proven one of the best-rebounding guards in the league, grabbing 12 boards against WOU and ranking 17th with 5.5 rpg ... Hale, from Eastern Arizona, has delivered 27 assists and committed just 8 turnovers in 204 minutes for the 7th-best A/T ratio in the league.
 
TRUST IN RUSTY: Now in his 16th year at the helm, head coach Rusty Osborne (287-168) has led the Seawolves to 14 straight seasons of .500-plus records, along with five NCAA Tournaments and a trip to the 2008 NCAA D-II Semifinals … the longest tenured coach in program history and in the GNAC, he became the first UAA basketball coach to reach 200 career victories when the Seawolves beat Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 10, 2015 … Osborne captured his first career GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths (2006-08), and in 2011-12 his Seawolves posted a 24-10 record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne's 2007-08 club holds that record with a 29-6 mark … before taking over the head job in 2004-05, the Texas native previously served 13 seasons (1991-04) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant … the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament ... Osborne is assisted in by Ryan Orton (6th season) and former Seawolf guard Kyle Fossman (1st season).
