#13 Seawolves extend streaks with 73-41 rout of Wolves

ANCHORAGE – Senior guards Safiyyah Yasin and Yazmeen Goo combined for 37 points and 13th-ranked Alaska Anchorage used a dominant defensive effort to cruise to a 73-41 women's basketball victory over Western Oregon at the Alaska Airlines Center on Saturday night, extending a pair of long winning streaks.

The Seawolves (9-1, 2-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) got 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting from Yasin as they beat the visitors from Monmouth for the 32nd consecutive time and earned their 32nd straight GNAC regular-season home win.

The Wolves (2-6, 0-2) were led by nine points from guard Keyonna Jones as they were outshot .481 to .306.

"I would've like to see us rebound a little better than we did tonight, but I can't fault our effort," said UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy, who captured his 199th victory at UAA. "We did a nice job taking advantage of our strengths and following our defensive philosophy. I know our ladies are excited to perform well on finals next week and move on to the second half of the season with a renewed focus."

Having suffered their last loss to Western Oregon in Dec. 2003, the Seawolves dominated from the opening minutes Saturday, jumping to a 20-6 lead after one quarter and making it 40-20 at halftime.

UAA started the second half with a 9-2 surge and led by at least 22 points the rest of the way.

Yasin topped the 20-point plateau for the third time this year, while Goo recorded four assists and a career-high 16 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 2 of 2 from long range. Junior guard Kedranea' Addison chipped in eight points, three assists and no turnovers, while Yasin and junior guard Stephanie Jackson picked up three steals apiece.

The Seawolves play their final three non-conference games Dec. 17-22 in Hawaii, starting against Menlo College in Honolulu. Check the women's basketball schedule page at GoSeawolves.com for links to follow the action live.
