ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Marqus Gilson led a hot-shooting effort with 18 points and eight rebounds Thursday to power host Central Washington to an 84-50 men's basketball victory over Alaska Anchorage at the Nicholson Pavilion.
The visiting Seawolves (11-7, 4-3 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) were led by 15 points from senior forward
Niko Bevens and 10 points and six rebounds from junior center as they shot a season-low 31.6 percent from the field.
The Wildcats (9-6, 2-5) also got 13 points and six rebounds off the bench from Tariq Woody as they made 10 of 23 three-pointers and won the rebounding battle 47-29.
"Credit goes to Central Washington. They played well," said UAA head coach
Rusty Osborne, whose team entered Thursday's contest with three straight wins over the Wildcats. "We did not play well in any phase of the game. We will look to regroup tomorrow and prepare for an NNU team that plays very well at home."
The Seawolves trailed from the outset Thursday as the Wildcats scored the game's first eight points. Bevens sank a three-pointer to get UAA within 10-8 at the 15:36 mark, but Central Washington answered with a 13-2 run and led by double figures the rest of the way.
Bevens shot 3 of 10 from long range to pull into a tie for No. 10 on UAA's career three-pointers made list, now with 148.
Pantovic shot 4 of 9 from the field as the Utah State-Eastern transfer scored double figures for the seventh straight game, while junior point guard
DeAndre Osuigwe produced seven points and seven rebounds.
UAA travels to Nampa, Idaho, to face Northwest Nazarene at 3:15 p.m. AST Saturday at the Johnson Sports Center. Live video and stats for that game can be found at gnac.tv or portal.stretchinternet.com/uaa.
