Late goal sinks Seawolves

SAULT STE, MARIE, MICH – Trey deGraaf scored one goal and assisted on another for Alaska Anchorage as the Seawolves fell at Lake Superior State 3-2 in the first game of a pivotal two-game series Friday.

The Lakers earned three points for the win and currently sit in seventh place with 22 points. The Seawolves are eighth with 18 points, and Ferris State is ninth with 14 points. The top eight teams make the WCHA playoffs.

The Seawolves got on the scoreboard first with a goal by Rylee St. Onge at 9:24 of the first period. Zach Court sent a pass from behind the net to St. Onge in front of the net who scored his sixth goal of the season.

UAA added a second goal later in the period thanks to a short-handed goal by Trey deGraaf at 14:52. Degraaf, who assisted on the Seawolve's first goal, was assisted by Zach Court and Nolan Nicholas.

The Lakers tied the game 2-2 with power-play goals at 14:56 of the second period and 16:32 of the third. LSSU finished 2-for-6 on the powerplay, and UAA was 0-for-3.

Pete Veillette redirected a long slap shot by Lukas Kaelble to net the game winner with 63 seconds remaining.

The Lakers out-shot the Seawolves 28-16.

Kris Carlson finished with 25 saves.

UAA and LSSU will close out the series Saturday.
