Hockey rings in New Year with shutout win

ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team rang in the New Year with a 2-0 win over Lake Superior State Saturday.

Kris Carlson made 29 saves in his first career win for the Seawolves. The shutout was the first of Carlson's career and the first by a Seawolf goalie since Kristian Stead shutout Alaska Fairbanks 4-0 on Oct. 26th, 2019.

Zach Court scored his first goal of the season, and the first goal of the game, at 15:31 of the first period. Zach Nazzarett and Jared Nash each assisted on the goal. Nazzarrett was playing in his first game for UAA after joining the team after the holiday break.

Rylee St. Onge extended the Seawolves lead to 2-0 when he scored on a rebound at 13:20 of the second period. Luc Brown, who was playing in his first college hockey since Oct. of 2018 after transferring from Union, recorded the lone assist.

The Seawolves were whistled for a season-low four penalty minutes.

UAA and LSSU will close out the weekend series Sunday at 3 pm. The team will be hosting a skate with the team following the game. Fans must bring their own skates and helmets.
