ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Lake Superior State scored three third period goals to defeat Alaska Anchorage 5-3 Sunday.
Tanner Schachle factored in to all three UAA goals scoring the first and assisting on the second two.
Ashton Calder opened the scoring for the Lakers with an unassisted goal at 12:29 of the first period.
Schachle tied the game 90 seconds later with a wrist shot on the powerplay. Tomi Hiekkavirta and Rylee St. Onge assisted on the play.
Schachle set-up Zach Nazzarett for his first UAA goal 91 seconds later. Nazzarett, who joined the team after the holiday break, recorded an assist in his first career game last night to go along with tonight's goal.
Max Humitz capitalized on the lone Laker powerplay of the second period lighting the lamp at 10:16.
Luc Brown scored an easy power-play goal after LSSU goalie Mareks Mitens was caught out of position to give UAA a 3-2 lead less than four minutes into the second period. Tanner Schachle and Rylee St. Onge recorded their second assists of the evening on the goal.
Brayden Gelsinger tied the game at 13:27, and Pete Veillette scored the game-winning goal off a rebound at 16:19 of the third period.
Max Humitz scored his second goal of the evening with an empty-net goal with 28 seconds remaining.
LSSU out-shot UAA 33-25. The Seawolves finished 2-for-4 on the powerplay and held the Lakers 1-for-5.
Kris Carlson finished with 28 saves for UAA.
Alaska Anchorage will play at Northern Michigan Jan. 10-11.
