UAA's opponents come north tied for third in the standings and each with designs on an NCAA Tournament berth.
 
SCOUTING REPORT: Simon Fraser had its GNAC title hopes dashed last week with close home losses to Central Washington and Northwest Nazarene, snapping a 4-game winning streak by the NCAA's lone Canadian program ... the Clan are led by Jessica Jones (17.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.6 spg, .376 3FG, .750 FT) and Tayler Drynan (11.0 ppg, 4.3 apg, .825 FT) ... ranked 7th in the latest D2SIDA West Region poll, Western Washington comes north with seven wins in its last nine games, having stopped UAA's 27-game GNAC regular-season win streak in Bellingham last month ... the balaned Vikings are led by Anna Schwecke (13.0 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 1.1 bpg, .607 FG, .856 FT) and Emma Duff (10.9 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 1.0 bpg, .337 3FG).

SURGING TOWARD SIX: The Seawolves took care of longtime rivals Alaska Fairbanks and Montana State Billings last week to run their winning streak to seven games and move two steps closer to their sixth straight GNAC regular-season title ... on Tuesday at the Alaska Airlines Center, So. G Jahnna Hajdukovich scored a career-high 23 points (7-11 3FG), along with 3 assists and 3 steals, to propel UAA to its largest win in the 102-game series history against UAF, 90-36 ... Sr. G Safiyyah Yasin scored all 13 of her points in the first half and dished 4 assists, Jr. G Lauren Johnson had 12 points and 2 blocks, and Jr. PG Stephanie Jackson tallied 6 assists and a career-high 10 rebounds as UAA outshot the visitors .429 to .197 and outrebounded them 57-37 ... less than 48 hours later in Billings, UAA got 22 points (7-13 FG, 6-8 FT) from Yasin and 15 points (6-6 FG) and 5 rebounds from Sr. PG Yazmeen Goo to pull away from a mid-3rd quarter tie and sweep the Yellowjackets, 83-69 ... Jr. C Tennae Voliva picked up her sixth double-double with 13 points (5-7 FG, 3-4 FT) and 10 rebounds and So. F Kimani Fernandez tied her season high with 8 points (4-5 FG) as UAA posted another hefty rebounding edge at 43-32.
 
WINNING WAYS: UAA's 27-game GNAC win streak from Jan. 3, 2019 to Jan. 18, 2020 finished as the 2nd-longest in league history (since 2001-02), just ahead of its streak of 26 from Nov. 30, 2016 to Jan. 18, 2018) ... at 179-17 (.913), the Seawolves have the second-best winning percentage and second-most victories in NCAA Div. II since 2014-15, trailing Ashland (182-15, .924) for those honors ... UAA is a combined 114-9 – including 52-5 on the road – in GNAC regular-season and tournament games over the last six seasons (since Dec. 2014) ... UAA has stretched its Alaska Airlines Center win streak to a record 26 games, suffering its last home loss to Seattle Pacific in the 2018 GNAC Tournament semifinals ... the Seawolves have won 38 consecutive GNAC regular-season home contests, including 10-0 marks the previous three seasons ... UAA has gone a combined 194-16 (.924) in the last 13 seasons on its home courts, including 85-6 (.934) at the Alaska Airlines Center (since 2014-15) ... the Seawolves are aiming for a fourth 30-win season five years, starting with their NCAA Div. II-record 38 victories in 2015-16 ... last year UAA became the first basketball program to win at least a share of five straight GNAC regular-season titles (four outright, tied in 2018) ... UAA has now recorded 25 wins for six straight seasons and has now produced 16 20-win seasons in 43 years of program history ... the Seawolves have won 57 of their last 59 regular-season games against Div. II non-conference opponents ... UAA has clinched the program's 14th consecutive winning season and is seeking its 13th NCAA Tournament berth in 14 years ... the Seawolves have won five of the nine GNAC Tournament titles since the event started in 2011.
 
NIFTY NUMBERS: UAA has assumed its familiar position among the NCAA Div. II national stats leaders, ranking among the top 50 in 13 categories ­– including 7th in steals per game (13.0), turnover margin (8.0) and scoring margin (+22.2), 9th in scoring defense (53.5), 17th in A/T ratio (1.2), 22nd in turnovers forced per game (21.5) and 26th in assists per game (16.3) – despite not having a single player among the top 60 in any individual category ... in the GNAC stats, the Seawolves lead in eight of the 21 categories and rank second in four others ... the Seawolves are attempting to finish top-10 nationally in steals for the seventh straight season, having led NCAA Div. II for four straight years from 2013-14 to 2016-17.
 
GOO STUFF: An honorable mention All-GNAC selection the past two seasons, a Preseason All-GNAC Team pick this year and the most recent GNAC Player of the Week honoree, Sr. PG Yazmeen Goo has developed into one of the best floor generals in the country, helping UAA rank top 10 nationally in steals, turnover margin and scoring defense ... in the GNAC stats, the Bay Area product ranks 5th in assists (3.9 apg), 4th in A/T ratio (1.8), 5th in steals (1.8 spg) and 4th in FG% (.556), despite logging a modest 22.5 minutes per game in UAA's balanced system ... on UAA's career lists, Goo continues to rise the charts at 4th in assists (428), 9th in assists per game (3.9), 4th in steals (257), 12th in steals per game (2.4), 7th in FTs made (302), 13th in FTs made per game (2.8), 14th in FG% (.497) and tied for 9th in victories (97).
 
YASIN HER LATELY: Another Preseason All-GNAC selection and the GNAC Player of the Week for Jan. 6-12, Sr. G Safiyyah Yasin (suf-FEE-yuh ya-SEEN) has been a problem for opposing defenses, ranking 8th in the GNAC with 13.6 ppg on shooting numbers of .431 FG, .375 3FG and .794 FT ... a key reserve in all 33 games last year, the Diablo Valley (Calif.) College transfer has topped the 20-point plateau four times this year and has scored double figures in 22 of 27 games ... in addition to her scoring, Yasin also holds GNAC ranks of 3rd in steals (2.4 spg), 5th in A/T ratio (1.7), 10th in 3FG% and 9th in FT% ... on UAA's career lists, she is 10th in FT% (.785), 12th in 3FG% (.365) and 17th in steals per game (2.2).
 
T.V. SHOW: A key reserve in her first season and a half, Jr. F/C Tennae Voliva (t'NAY voh-LEE-vuh) has taken her game to the next level, averaging 10.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 1.1 apg, 2.0 spg and 0.9 bpg ... in the GNAC stats, she ranks 4th in rebounding and steals, 12th in blocks and 7th in FG% (.498), with her rebounding average on pace to be the highest in the Ryan McCarthy era ... the former East Anchorage HS star earned her sixth double-double last week at MSU Billings, following efforts of 19 points/10 rebounds at Simon Fraser and 19 pts/12 rebs against Northwest Nazarene ... now with 13 double-figure scoring efforts and seven double-figure rebound games, Voliva started the season with the Most Outstanding Player award at the D2 West Coast Classic and all-tourney honors at the Seawolf Hoops Classic ... on UAA's career lists, she stands 13th in FG% (.499), 13th in blocks (55) and blocks per game (0.6), and 14th in victories, sporting an 81-10 career record in Green & Gold.
 
PAW PRINTS: Fr. G Rachel Ingram has drained multiple three-pointers in 15 of 27 games thus far, with her 50 treys easily surpassing Jessica Madison's old UAA rookie record of 36 (2012-13) ... the Colorado Springs native ranks No. 2 in the GNAC with her .403 3FG%, which is also among the top 10 freshmen nationally ... Ingram has also broken the UAA single-game freshman record with seven 3FGs made in the win over Concordia-Portland ... a transfer from Santa Fe (Fla.) College, Jr. G Stephanie Jackson has made an impact in her first season on both sides of the court, ranking 16th in the league with 2.4 assists per game and 15th with 1.5 steals per contest ... Jackson's 10 rebounds last week against UAF were the most for a Seawolf point guard since Kiki Robertson had 10 at Chaminade on Nov. 21, 2013 ... So. G Jahnna Hajdukovich has shot 13 of 23 from long range over the last four games to break into the GNAC top-20 rankings at 14th in 3FG% (.359) and 12th in 3FGs per game (1.5) ... the local Dimond High product now ranks 15th on UAA's career 3FG% last as well at .354.
 
MASTER OF MAYHEM: In his eighth season at UAA and ninth season as a head coach, Ryan McCarthy has ascended to the top of two impressive lists, as the NCAA Div. II active leader in career winning percentage (.824) and the all-time winningest coach in UAA women's basketball history ... since coming north in 2012, McCarthy has led the Seawolf program to unprecedented heights, capturing five straight GNAC regular-season titles (four outright), three GNAC Tournament titles, six straight NCAA Tournament berths, and ascending as high as No. 1 or No. 2 in the national rankings every season from 2014-15 through 2017-18 ... in 2018-19, McCarthy earned his third consecutive GNAC Coach of the Year honor and fourth in the last five seasons ... he was the WBCA NCAA Div. II West Region Coach of the Year three straight times from 2015-17 ... in 2016-17, the Anchorage native led UAA to its third straight top-2 regional seed and its second straight 30-win season (30-2), while recording the first 20-0 league record in GNAC history ... the previous season, McCarthy's crew set an NCAA Div. II record with 38 victories, advancing all the way to the 2016 National Title Game in Indianapolis ... his 2014-15 club claimed what was then the best winning percentage in program history with a 29-2 (.935) mark, sweeping both GNAC titles as well ... McCarthy led UAA to an improvement in overall wins (17, 19, 29, 38) his first four seasons and increased the Seawolves' GNAC victory total in each of his first five campaigns (11, 12, 17, 18, 20) … playing its up-tempo 'Mayhem' style, McCarthy's crews led the nation in steals per game for four straight seasons (2013-14 to 2016-17), while staying among the top 10 in steals each year since ... McCarthy sports head-coaching records of 215-36 (.857) at UAA and 229-49 (.824) overall, having served in an interim capacity at Northwest Nazarene in 2010-11 … McCarthy is assisted by 8th-year associate head coach Shaina Afoa (the 2017-18 WBCA NCAA Div.
