Hockey season ends with 4-2 loss at #3 MSU

MANKATO, MINN. – The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey season came to an end with a 4-2 loss at No. 3 Minnesota State in the first round of the WCHA Playoffs Saturday.

The Seawolves, who were making their first appearance in the WCHA Playoffs since 2014, finish the season 4-25-7.

The Seawolves took the first lead of the game at 10:58 of the second period when Marcus Mitchell fired a one-timer for his second goal of the season. Corey Renwick and Zac Masson each assisted on the goal.

Reggie Lutz tied the game at 1-1 with a one-timer of his own at 16:04 of the second.

The Mavericks got their first lead of the game less than two minutes into the third period with a power-play goal at 1:58.

Corey Renwick picked up his second point of the night when he redirected a centering pass at 4:20 of the third. Marcus Mitchell assisted on the play for his second point of the night, and Zach Nazzarett added an assist.

Jake Jaremko scored the game-winning goal for MSU on a 3-on-2 opportunity at 14:42.

The Mavericks added an empty-net goal with 18 seconds remaining.

UAA was out-shot 53-14 and was held scoreless on its lone power-play opportunity.

Kris Carlson finished with 49 saves for the Seawolves.  

The six seniors on this year's team, Luc Brown, Tomi Hiekkavirta, Carmine Buono, Nolan Nicholas, Corey Renwick and David Trinkberger, finish their careers with a combined 111 points (30 goals and 81 assists) in 608 games.
