Last: UAA 66-64 (12/21/19 at Honolulu) / Streak: UAA 4

2019-20 RECAP: The Seawolves delivered a bounce-back season in 2019-20, claiming a 20-14 record and missing an NCAA Tournament berth by the narrowest of margins ... UAA finished 5th place in the regular-season Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings with an 11-9 league mark and advanced to the title game of the GNAC Tournament in Seattle, knocking off top-seeded Seattle Pacific in the semifinals ... the Seawolves swept their meetings with longtime rivals Alaska Fairbanks and Montana State Billings, and had a dozen contests decided by four points or less ... then-Jr. C Oggie Pantovic earned First Team All-GNAC honors and then-So. G Tobin Karlberg and Sr. F Niko Bevens were tabbed All-GNAC honorable mention.

TEAM NOTES: The Seawolves have recorded winning records in 14 of the last 15 seasons (the other was .500) and 35 of 43 seasons in program history ... UAA has produced a winning league record in 31 of their 39 years of conference membership, including 15 of 19 years in the GNAC ... the Seawolves reached 20 wins for the 17th time in program history in 2019-20 ... UAA led the 2019-20 GNAC stats in assists per game (17.3), assist/turnover ratio (1.5), 3FG% (.408) and 3FGs per game (11.9) ... in the NCAA Div. II national stats, the Seawolves were 6th in 3FGs per game, 10th in 3FG%, 13th in A/T ratio, 18th in FT%, 19th in assists per game and 32nd in fewest turnovers per game (11.5), while their 406 total 3FGs were most in the nation and broke the school record by 15 treys.

EYES ON OGGIE: With nine double-doubles – including at least 21 points and 12 rebounds in four straight outings – Sr. F/C Oggie Pantovic came on strong over the second half the 2019-20 season and earned First Team All-GNAC honors ... the Serbian was a unanimous Preseason All-GNAC pick this year after ranking 3rd in the GNAC stats in rebounding (7.6 rpg), 4th in FG% (.583) and 10th in scoring (15.4 ppg) as a junior ... he posted double figures in his last 19 contests and captured the GNAC Player of the Week award for Feb. 10-16 ... in GNAC-only games, Pantovic's numbers were even more impressive at 17.4 ppg (6th) and 8.7 rpg (2nd).

KING KARLBERG: After averaging 3.4 ppg in a reserve role as a true freshman in 2018-19, Jr. G Tobin Karlberg emerged as UAA's 3rd-leading scorer with 12.9 ppg and nabbed honorable mention All-GNAC accolades in 2019-20 ... a Preseason All-GNAC pick this year, he shot 48 of 87 on threes over his last 15 games as a sophomore, and would have finished 2nd in NCAA Div. II with a .509 3FG% had he made just two more treys (thereby reaching the statistical minimum of 2.5 makes per game) ... the former local Grace Christian HS star tallied double figures in 23 games in 2019-20, with five of his six 20-plus efforts coming after Jan. 29 ... Karlberg posted GNAC ranks of 2nd in 3FG%, 6th in 3FGs per game (2.4), 6th in A/T ratio (2.5) and 16th in FG% (.502), and his .471 career 3FG% currently stands No. 2 program history, just behind Kemmy Burgess (.474, 2003-06).

TRANSFER STATION: UAA will rely heavily on a handful of talented transfers this season, including three former foes in Sr. G David Rowlands (Hawaii Pacific), Sr. F Hunter Sweet (Concordia-Portland) and So. G Caleb Larsen ... Rowlands should play a major factor in his 'super senior' season after starting 55 of 88 career games at HPU, where he racked up 668 points (.473 3FG, .375 3FG, .872 FG), 153 assists and 116 3FGs in four years ... Sweet was an honorable mention All-GNAC performer at Concordia as a junior in 2019-20, averaging 12.1 ppg and shooting .403 from long range ... meanwhile, Larsen redshirted in 2018-19 and had a solid rookie season at Concordia with 5.2 ppg, 1.9 apg and .818 FT shooting in 19.2 minutes per contest ... UAA also has a pair of JC transfers who practiced with the team during the pandemic season in Jr. F Vojtech Ruzek and Jr. G A.J. Garrity ... Ruzek played two seasons at Utah State-Eastern, where he was an honorable mention All-Scenic West Conference selection as a sophomore in 2019-20, averaging 9.8 ppg (.570 FG) and 6.1 rpg ... the Czech was also a teammate of current Seawolf standout Oggie Pantovic during his rookie season at USUE in 2018-19 ... Garrity started all 61 of his career games at Santiago Canyon JC from 2018-20, earning First Team All-Orange Empire Conference honors as a sophomore ... the LA-area native averaged 13.1 ppg, 3.0 rpg and 1.8 apg in 2019-20, helping the Hawks go 28-2 and reach the Elite 8 of the CCCAA playoffs ... in addition, UAA gets a boost from newcomer Darius Guinn, who spent last season at Div. I program Bryant and starred previously at Central Wyoming ... as a sophomore, the Oregon native led Central Wyoming with 17.0 ppg on shooting numbers of .455 FG, .357 3FG and .800 FT (192-240), along with 6.0 rpg and 2.6 apg.

TRUST IN RUSTY: In his 17th season (18th year) at the helm, head coach Rusty Osborne (299-180) has now led the Seawolves to 15 straight seasons of .500-plus records, along with five NCAA Tournaments and a trip to the 2008 NCAA D-II Semifinals … the longest tenured coach in program history and in the GNAC, he became the first UAA basketball coach to reach 200 career victories when the Seawolves beat Alaska Fairbanks on Jan. 10, 2015 … Osborne captured his first career GNAC and NABC West District coach-of-the-year awards in 2008 after becoming the second coach to lead UAA to three consecutive NCAA berths (2006-08), and in 2011-12 his Seawolves posted a 24-10 record to equal the 2nd-most victories in program history; Osborne's 2007-08 club holds that record with a 29-6 mark … before taking over the head job in 2004-05, the Texas native previously served 13 seasons (1991-04) as a UAA assistant, including 11 years as the top assistant … the Seawolves have won over 60 percent of their games with Osborne on the staff, claiming four conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament ... Osborne is assisted in Ryan Orton (7th season/8th year), Jalon McCullough (1st season) and volunteer assistant Ryan Engebretsen (1st season/2nd year).
