HONOLULU – Junior guard
Tobin Karlberg had 19 points and senior center
Oggie Pantovic grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds, but the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team could not complete their comeback effort Sunday, falling 62-47 to Chaminade at the T.C. Ching Center.
The Seawolves (1-1) also got 10 points and three steals from senior guard
David Rowlands as they erased an 11-point second-half deficit, only to see the hosts finish on a 17-2 run.
The Silverswords (2-0) were led by 14 points and seven rebounds from forward Zach McIntire, plus 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting and six rebounds from forward Paris Taylor.
Chaminade led 26-18 at halftime and built it to 39-28 with 13:38 remaining, but the Seawolves would rally with four straight three-pointers to grab their first advantage since the opening moments.
UAA answered a 6-0 Silversword surge with a three-pointer from Karlberg and a second-chance layup by senior forward
Hunter Sweet, tying it 45-45 at the 7:51 mark. The visitors would go cold from that point, however, and Chaminade followed with 17 straight points before Karlberg's layup with 34 seconds remaining.
Karlberg shot 8 of 19 from the field, while Sweet accounted for nine points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and no turnovers.
The Seawolves finish their season-opening trip with a visit to the Big Island to face Hawaii Hilo at 8 p.m. AST Tuesday. Surf to GoSeawolves.com for links to live video and stats.
