FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Junior middle blocker
Akor Maywin posted a pair of career-high efforts but it wasn't enough on a rough Friday for the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team as the Seawolves suffered two losses in the Nanook Classic at the Patty Center, falling 3-2 to Colorado State-Pueblo and 3-0 to Cal State Los Angeles.
"Those were a disappointing pair of losses," said UAA head coach
Chris Green, whose team fell to 7-4 as it prepares for its non-conference finale Saturday against Drury. "We did not serve or pass well enough all day. We will need to do much better to have a chance against a very good Drury team tomorrow."
Match 1 Recap:
The Seawolves got 19 kills, 16 digs and five block assists from junior
Eve Stephens in the opening contest, but they couldn't convert a pair of match points in the fourth set and fell by a 17-25, 25-21, 19-25, 28-26, 15-9 score.
The Thunderwolves (5-0) were led by 13 kills from Payton Stack and seven total blocks from Jazzy Espinoza as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference club won despite being outhit .185 to .145 and outdug 77-68.
