ANCHORAGE – Outside hitter
Lisa Jaunet had 10 kills on career-high .500 hitting and setter
Ellen Floyd dished 28 assists to lead the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to a 25-20, 25-20, 25-12 sweep of Seattle Pacific on Saturday at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (11-5, 4-0 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got seven kills apiece from pin hitters
Mahala Kaapuni and
Eve Stephens as they remained one of two unbeaten teams in league play.
The Falcons (6-5, 2-2) were led by 14 kills from Erin Gould, but standout Maddie Batiste was held to just four kills on negative hitting as the hosts claimed a .357 to .096 edge in attack percentage.
"We were very efficient offensively and found a way around their big blockers," said UAA head coach
Chris Green, whose team committed just four attack errors and beat SPU for the 16th time in the last 17 meetings. "The big reason that the offensive was able to have so much success is because of it was our best passing effort of the season so far."
The turning point in the match came after SPU used an 8-0 run to knot the first set at 20-20. Green used his second timeout, and the Falcons served long on the ensuing point. After a Falcons attack error, UAA got a kill from
Akor Maywin and an ace from
Makana Eleneki to earn set point, and clinched it when Maywin and Floyd combined to block SPU's Sarah Brachvogel.
UAA slowly pulled away from a 15-15 tie to earn the second by the same 25-20 score, getting a pair of kills from Stephens during a final 7-3 surge.
The Seawolves got five kills on seven swings from Jaunet in third set, running away with the victory behind .400 hitting in the final frame.
Junior libero
Talia Leauanae had a match-high 12 digs for UAA, while freshman defensive specialist
Reilly Plumhoff added six digs and two aces.
The Seawolves face perhaps their toughest road trip of the season next week when they visit a pair of nationally ranked teams in Western Washington (Thur., Sept. 30, 6 p.m. ADT) and Simon Fraser (Sat., Oct. 2, 6 p.m. ADT).
