ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – No. 14 Western Michigan scored three goals in the third period to hand Alaska Anchorage its first loss of the season, 4-1, Sunday.
"Proud of our effort for the weekend," said head coach Matt Shasby. "Going into the third (period) tied 1-1 was a great spot to be in, but our guys ran out of gas. Overall just a great weekend against a high-quality opponent. This was a good place to start. Our goaltending was good all weekend, and our guys got a taste of good college hockey."
After a scoreless first period, both teams got on the scoreboard thanks to a power-play goal.
Jason Polin opened the scoring with the first Bronco's goal at 5:53.
The Seawolves answered three minutes later when Ben Almquist lit the lamp at 8:59. William Gilson assisted on the goal for his second straight game with a point. Dylan Finlay recorded the other assist.
