TEMPE, ARIZ. – Jamie Collins and Brett Bamber each scored for Alaska Anchorage in a 5-2 loss at Arizona State Friday.
The Sun Devils scored a pair of first period goals less than a minute apart. Ty Jackson opened the scoring with a goal at 13:52, and Jack Jensen followed up with a goal at 14:43.
Jamie Collins scored his third goal of the season with a wrap-around goal at 11:28 of the second period to cut the ASU lead to 2-1. Ben Almquist recorded his fifth assist of the season on the goal.
The Sun Devils countered with three goals in the second period. Dylan Jackson scored at 13:21, and Josh Doan lit the lamp at 14:08. Jack Judson was the fifth ASU player to score when he scored a short-handed goal at 17:55 of the middle period.
Brett Bamber scored his second goal of the season thanks to an assist from Matt Allen, his fourth of the year, at 9:26 of the third period.
UAA finished 0-for-3 on the power play and held ASU scoreless on the powerplay (0-for-4), including a five-minute major power play in the second period.
"For the most part, I felt we played a solid game," said head coach Matt Shasby. "I thought we expended a lot of energy killing the five-minute penalty and then getting the game back to 2-1, which led to their quick three goals breaking the game open."
Arizona State out-shot Alaska Anchorage 42-34.
UAA goalie Nolan Kent finished with 37 saves.
UAA and ASU will close out the weekend series Saturday.
