Record 16 treys help #15 UAA repel Biola

ANCHORAGE – Senior forward Vishe' Rabb scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Saturday to help 15th-ranked Alaska Anchorage fend off another Biola upset bid for an 86-79 women's basketball victory at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (5-0) also got a season-high 17 points on 5-of-11 three-point shooting from senior guard Rachel Ingram as they tied their program record with 16 treys.

The Eagles (0-6) were led by 20 points, five rebounds, six assists and three steals from point guard Laila Walker, but the visitors from La Mirada, Calif., could not take advantage of 25 Seawolf turnovers.

"We need to be better in a lot of facets, but I give Biola a ton of credit for making things very hard on us again tonight," said UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy, whose team improved to 30-0 in regular-season home games against NCAA Div. II non-conference opponents since the Alaska Airlines Center opened in 2014. "This should be a good growing experience for us this weekend, and fortunately our three-point shooters stepped up and made sure it came in a victory."

After pulling away in the final four minutes for a 77-68 win over the same club Friday, the Seawolves found themselves in another dogfight in the rematch, trailing 20-18 after one quarter. UAA forged a 40-36 halftime advantage, but the Pacific West Conference visitors responded with a 12-6 surge to go ahead with six minutes left in the third quarter.

Trailing 51-50, the Seawolves retook the lead for good when Anaiah Moore swished two free throws and Rabb tallied five quick points. Ingram made it 63-55 on a three-pointer with 8:48 to play, although the Eagles responded with the next six points. Moore – a transfer from Div. I program Milwaukee – came through again with a short jumper in the lane, before grabbing a defensive rebound and starting a sequence that led to a layup by Kate Robertson.

Nicole Pinckney made a short jumper in the lane for a 69-64 lead with 5:07 left, and the Eagles could not make it a one-possession game again.

A transfer from Augustana (S.D.), Rabb surpassed her previous career high of 22 points, achieved once with the Vikings and again in Friday's win over Biola. She shot 6 of 13 from the field and made 9 of 10 free throws, also tying her career-best six assists from her days in South Dakota.

Ingram – who totaled 19 points through the first four games – finished 6 of 13 overall from the field, along with four rebounds and two assists in 23 minutes off the bench. The Colorado Springs native grabbed three of her boards on the offensive end and increased her career total to 121 treys – No. 10 on UAA's all-time list.

Senior guard Jahnna Hajdukovich had 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 3FG) despite fouling out and playing only 15 minutes, while Pinckney had eight points, three rebounds, five assists and only one turnover. Sophomore guard Jazzpher Evans finished with nine points and four assists, and Robertson tallied eight rebounds and three assists.

The 16 three-pointers tie the school record set Feb. 11, 2020 against Alaska Fairbanks and Mar. 23, 2021 at Warner Pacific, while UAA's 39 three-point attempts were third-most in program history.

The Seawolves play their annual early-season Great Northwest Athletic Conference openers next week, hosting Montana State Billings on Thursday (7:30 p.m.) and Seattle Pacific on Saturday (5:15 p.m.) at the Alaska Airlines Center. Surf to GoSeawolves.com for tickets and live video and stats links.
