CARSON, Calif. – Asia Jordan scored 18 points and unbeaten Cal State Dominguez Hills controlled action from the start for an 88-58 victory over Alaska Anchorage in a battle of regionally ranked women's basketball teams Sunday at the Torodome.
The visiting Seawolves (8-2) – ranked No. 14 in the WBCA Top 25 poll and No. 6 in the D2SIDA West Region poll – were led by 14 points on 4-of-9 three-point shooting from senior guard
Rachel Ingram.
The Toros (10-0) – ranked No. 6 in the West – got 8-of-13 shooting from Jordan, along with 14 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and four steals from backcourt mate Dawnyel Lair as they extended their program's best-ever start and remained the last unbeaten team in the NCAA Div. II West Region. CSUDH has won all of its games by double figures.
"CSUDH is a very good team. We clearly did not play to the standard of our program today, and they made us pay the price," said UAA head coach
Ryan McCarthy, whose team lost for just the third time in its last 70 regular-season games against non-conference Div. II opponents. "We will use this as an opportunity to grow and fall forward."
UAA trailed 8-0 in the opening minutes and was never able to make a run, committing 29 fouls and 21 turnovers, and getting outrebounded 49-33.
Junior guard
Hayley Berfield finished with nine points and senior forward
Vishe' Rabb had eight points, five rebounds and three steals for the Seawolves, who suffered the program's worst loss since a 67-34 score, Feb. 23, 2006 against Seattle Pacific.
The Seawolves conclude their road trip Monday (noon AST) with their final non-conference game of the regular season, facing Bethesda University in Anaheim, Calif.
