ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – The University of Alaska Anchorage hockey team scored early and often in a 6-0 shutout exhibition win over Simon Fraser Friday.
Matt Johnson scored on a breakaway to give UAA the early 1-0 lead at 2:27 of the first period.
Ben Almquist used some fancy stick handling to score the Seawolves lone power-play goal of the night at 13:57 of the opening period.
The second period started with another quick goal, this time off the stick of Derek Hamelin at 2:17. Connor Cole lit the lamp 90 seconds later for UAA, and Ben Almquist scored his second goal, and third point of the game, at 7:34 of the period.
Dylan Finley scored the final goal of the game for the Seawolves at 8:49 of the third period for his second point of the contest.
Nolan Kent earned the shutout win for UAA stopping all 13 shots by SFU.
UAA out-shot SFU 26-13.
The Seawolves finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay, while the Red Leafs were scoreless on their only powerplay of the night.
The two teams will close the weekend series Saturday.
