ANCHORAGE – Central Washington center Samantha Bowman recorded a triple-double and the visitors controlled the battle of the boards Thursday to pull away for a 71-47 women's basketball victory over Alaska Anchorage.
The host Seawolves (10-5, 2-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) were led by nine points, six rebounds and two assists from senior guard
Jahnna Hajdukovich as they equaled their program's worst loss at the Alaska Airlines Center, which opened in the fall of 2014.
Bowman – the GNAC Preseason Player of the Year – finished with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting, 19 rebounds, 10 assists and five blocks, helping her team to a 53-34 rebounding advantage and a .453 to .260 edge in field-goal percentage.
The Wildcats (12-4, 4-3) also got 13 points from guard Sunshine Huerta and an eight-point, 12-rebound effort from Asher Cai as they earned snapped an eight-game losing streak in Anchorage and earned their first victory in eight tries at the Alaska Airlines Center.
In a battle of teams that have met three straight times in the GNAC Tournament semifinals, it was the Wildcats who jumped to the early lead and never trailed, fending off an early 9-2 Seawolf run in the first quarter.
The visitors led 40-23 at halftime and stretched their lead to 32 points in the fourth quarter.
