MONMOUTH, Ore. –
Jahnna Hajdukovich scored 22 points with a historic three-point shooting display and
Jazzpher Evans delivered a clutch all-around effort Thursday to propel the Alaska Anchorage women's basketball team to a 69-61 victory over Western Oregon at the New P.E. Building.
Senior forward
Vishe' Rabb added 14 points and four steals for the Seawolves (12-5, 4-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference), who extended their school-record streak to 36 straight wins against the Wolves (7-9, 1-7).
Western Oregon was led by 22 points and four assists from guard Cali McClave, plus 11 points and eight rebounds from forward Kiylynn Dawkins.
"We had some of our best offensive execution of the season tonight in the fourth quarter, and Jahnna really locked in with her stroke tonight," said UAA head coach
Ryan McCarthy. "After the slump she went through for a couple games, she has really shown a fearless shooter's mentality recently, and it was fun to watch her get into the zone like that."
After beating the Wolves with a three-pointer at the buzzer in the regular-season finale last March, Hajdukovich etched her name into Seawolf lore again, becoming the first player in program history to make seven treys on fewer than 10 attempts.
The local Dimond High School product gave the Seawolves a 29-27 lead on a three-pointer at the halftime buzzer, and Rabb scored inside for a 49-48 edge going into the final quarter.
Although the Seawolves led for over 34 minutes, the game still featured six ties and 14 lead changes. McClave accounted for four points in a 30-second span to give Western Oregon a 53-51 advantage with seven minutes to play, but Hajdukovich answered with a three-pointer moments later.
Hajdukovich drilled two more back-breaking treys after the Wolves cut it to a one- or two-point deficit, and her only three-point miss of the second half was turned into a rebound and layup by Rabb to make it 63-58 with 4:16 left.
Evans also stoked the late rally with her defense and passing, tallying six points, five assists and four steals with just one turnover in 30 minutes.
Junior guard
Hayley Berfield had nine points and four rebounds, sophomore forward
Kate Robertson had eight points, six rebounds, two assists and no turnovers, and senior guard
Nicole Pinckney nearly doubled her previous career high with nine rebounds.
