ANCHORAGE, ALASKA – Alaska Fairbanks scored a trio of goals in the third period and followed up with the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat Alaska Anchorage 4-3 in the fifth game of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Friday.
Alex Gomez scored his first career goal to put the Seawolves on the board at 8:39 of the first period.
Matt Allen extended the UAA lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal at 5:20 of the second period.
Arvils Bergmanis and Brady Risk scored at 9:10 and 12:08 of the third period for the Nanooks to tie the game at 2-2.
Matt Allen netted his second goal of the game at 14:52 of the third period.
Jonny Sorenson tied the game with 44 seconds remaining, and Payton Matsui scored the game-winner two minutes into the overtime period.
UAA goalie Nolan made 32 saves and assisted on the Seawolves second goal.
The Seawolves finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay and held the Nanooks scoreless on both their opportunities.
UAF finished with a 36-16 edge in shots.
The two teams will play the final game of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup in Fairbanks Saturday.
