FAIRBANKS, ALASKA – William Gilson scored one goal and added two assists for Alaska Anchorage who fell to Alaska Fairbanks 4-3 in overtime in the final game of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Saturday.
Special teams were a major factor with five of the seven goals in the contest coming on the powerplay.
Matt Johnson put the Seawolves on the scoreboard first with his first career goal at 2:35 of the first period.
Chase Dubois tied it up for UAF with a power-play goal three minutes later.
After a scoreless second period, both teams would score twice in the third.
Ben Almquist set-up both powerplay goals for the Seawolves, the first by William Gilson 39 seconds into the period and the second by Connor Marrit at 6:25.
The Seawolves were whistled for a costly five-minute major penalty for kneeing with 6:31 remaining.
The Nanooks took advantage of the man-advantage with goals by Chase Dubois, his second, and Anton Rubstov, to tie the game at 3-3.
The Seawolves were unable to score on their final powerplay of the game that extended from the third period to overtime.
Brady Risk scored the game-winner for UAF 58 seconds into the extra period.
The Nanooks out-shot the Seawolves 33-19.
UAA finished 2-for-6 on the powerplay, while UAF was 3-for-6.
Jared Whale finished with 29 saves for UAA.
Alaska Anchorage will play at UConn on Feb. 23rd.
