STORES, CONN. – Matt Allen scored twice for the University of Alaska Anchorage in a 4-3 overtime loss at No. 16 UConn Thursday.
"I thought we played a patient game that allowed us to have a chance in OT," said head coach Matt Shasby. "Proud of our effort after such a long break. Jared Whale had another solid effort and continues to impress."
The Huskies got the early lead thanks to goals by Hudson Schandor at 11:20 of the first period and Tristan Fraser at 9:49 of the second.
The Seawolves capitalized on their only powerplay of the game thanks to Matt Allan putting in a loose puck at 15:59 of the second period.
UConn opened the third period with a power-play goal of their own by Nick Capone who sent a one-timer past Jarred Whale at 5:19.
The Seawolves rallied to tie the game at 3-3 compliments of Matt Allen at 5:54 and Alex Gomez at 13:04.
Hudson Schandor, who scored the Huskies first goal, scored the game-winner at 2:37 of overtime.
UAA has lost its last four games in overtime by identical scores of 4-3.
UConn outshot the Seawolves 44-29 with Seawolf goalie Jarred Whale finishing with 40 saves. Whale also recorded an assist on Matt Allen's first goal.
UAA will play at LIU Saturday.
