FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Junior guard
Caleb Larsen tied his career high with 16 points, but a season-high 17 three-pointers were not enough for the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball Saturday in an 89-79 loss to Alaska Fairbanks at the Patty Center.
The Seawolves (9-10, 3-7 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 16 points on 4-of-6 three-point shooting from senior guard
AJ Garrity as they put six players in double figures.
Guard Bryan Nguyen scored 22 points and forward Tyler Mrus had 18 points for the Nanooks (8-10, 3-7). UAF made its first 26 free throws and finished 29 of 30 from the line as it forged a split of the season series.
After controlling action in an 81-59 home win over the Nanooks, the Seawolves fell behind in the opening minutes in the rematch. Trailing 28-16, Larsen delivered a four-point play and Garrity swished two three-pointers to account for a 10-0 run, but the hosts stretched to a 40-34 halftime advantage.
UAA sliced a 15-point second half deficit 60-53 on Larsen's three-pointer with 9:08 to play, and another Garrity trey made it 75-69 with 2:02 left, before the Nanooks sealed it at the free throw line.
Larsen shot 5 of 9 from long range, along with three assists and two steals, while juniors
Jaedon Bradley and
Dathan Satchell scored 11 points apiece.
Tyson Gilbert and
Sawyer Storms gave UAA six double-figure scorers with 10 points each, and junior forward
Jaron Williams had six rebounds and a career-high five assists.
The Seawolves return home for two games next week, starting with a Thursday 7 p.m. tip against Northwest Nazarene at the Alaska Airlines Center.
