ORONO, MAINE – Ben Almquist scored twice but it wasn't enough as Maine defeated Alaska Anchorage 4-3 in overtime Saturday.
The Black Bears got on the scoreboard first when Luke Antonacci fired a low shot past Jared Whale at 4:10 of the first period.
The lead did not last long as Ben Almquist fired a shot from the point to tie the game 91 seconds later.
Almquist netted his second goal of the game with less than three minutes remaining in the period by burying a rebound off a shot from William Gilson.
Maine capitalized off a bad bounce off the end boards as Aiden Carney slide the puck across to Michael Mancinelli who tied the game at 2-2 at 2:58 of the second period.
Ben Poisson put the Black Bears back on top with his fourth goal of the season at 15:54 of the third period.
Jarred White answered for the Seawolves with his first goal of the season less than 90 seconds later.
Cole Hanson capitalized on a turnover in the Anchorage defensive zone to score the game-winning goal for Maine 2:40 into the extra period.
"I thought our guys battled hard tonight," said head coach Matt Shasby. "Whale had another solid performance and gave us a chance to win. I am happy overall with the four-game road trip. Lots to build on and lots to learn from."
Maine finished with a heavy 44-20 edge in shots with UAA goalie Jared Whale finishing with 40 saves.
UAA finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay, and held UM scoreless on their three chances.
UAA will host UAF in the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Jan. 27th.
