MONMOUTH, Ore. (Oct. 7) –
Nicole Blue posted a double-double and a pair of local products delivered career-best efforts Thursday to lift the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to a 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 25-17, 15-11 victory over Western Oregon tonight at the New P.E. Building.
The Seawolves (11-11, 3-4 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) got career highs of 42 assists and four kills from junior setter
Kadyn Osborne and 23 digs from junior libero
Reilly Plumhoff as the former Dimond High School Lynx teammates helped UAA to its 20th straight win over WOU.
Blue had 13 kills and 13 digs,
Leilani Elder delivered half of her six block assists in the final frame, and
Isabel Evans had five total blocks as the Seawolves racked up a season-high 15 stuffs.
The Wolves (8-7, 2-5) were led by 22 kills and 13 digs from outside hitter Madison Hornback, but the hosts were held to .044 hitting over the final two sets.
"We were coming off a couple tough losses and had our backs to the wall tonight, but our team showed a lot of heart and resilience, and it paid off with a great win," said UAA head coach
Stacie Meisner. "Our defense – especially at the net – was outstanding over the final two sets, and that really swung the momentum in our favor. We were also excellent on both sides of the service game, getting aces from six different players and only allowing them five."
Hunting their 10th straight win in Monmouth, the Seawolves overcame a 9-5 deficit in the first set with a 10-2 run, and closed with four straight points after the Wolves pulled within 21-20. Blue had two kills in the final three rallies – including set point – on the way to her eighth double-double of the season.
Western Oregon hit .393 to claim the second set and kept UAA at arm's length throughout the third frame, allowing six tie scores but never relinquishing the lead.

Bella Burney notched four kills apiece and Osborne dished 11 assists in the fourth set as UAA took a 16-9 lead and repelled a late Wolves run. Leading 18-16, the Seawolves capped a 3-0 surge with a perfectly placed corner-pocket ace by
Sydney Johnson, and Burney made it 23-17 with back-to-back kills.
An early 3-1 deficit was quickly erased in the fifth, with UAA seizing control at 7-4 on three consecutive Wolves attack errors, including a block assist by Elder and Burney and a solo stuff by
Bethany Tuchardt. Kills by Blue and Evans increased the lead to 13-9, and UAA took the match when Hornback's final attack went wide of the antenna.
Tuchardt finished with 12 kills, Burney equaled her career high for the third time with 10 kills, and Evans had eight kills.
Plumhoff's 23 digs tied for the most by a Seawolf this season and topped her previous best of 21, accomplished twice. She also had two assists, three aces and went 15 of 16 in serve receptions.
The Seawolves return to the Alaska Airlines Center this week for matches against nationally ranked Central Washington on Thursday and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, both at 7 p.m. The NNU match will feature a 'Pack the House' promotion, with $5 tickets, the chance to win an Alaska Airlines ticket, and more.
