TEMPE, ARIZ. – Brett Bamber and Connor Marritt combined for four points in a 4-3 loss at No. 14 Arizona State Friday.
"I thought we played a good road game, but we could find the back of the net in the third period to take the lead," said head coach Matt Shasby. "We have some things to clean up to get ready for Sunday."
The two teams traded goals with the Sun Devils striking first with a goal by Ty Jackson at 8:12 of the first period.
Matt Allen collected his fifth goal of the season when his shot was deflected by TJ Semptimphelter at 14:02.
Tim Lovell scored the first of two power-play goals for ASU at 16:03 to give Arizona State a 2-1 lead at the break.
Ben Almquist scored a power-play goal less than one minute into the second period to tie the game at 2.
Matthew Kopperud scored ASU's second power-play goal at 7:40 of the second period to give ASU a 3-2 lead heading into the lockerroom.
Connor Marritt scored another early goal, only 37 seconds into the third period, but Charlie Schoen tallied the game-winner at 9:10.
ASU out-shot UAA 35-28, and led 32-23 in faceoffs.
Arizona State finished 2-for-4 on the powerplay, and Alaska Anchorage was 1-for-4.
Jared Whale made 31 saves for UAA.
Alaska Anchorage and Arizona State will faceoff again Sunday at 11 am.
