AMHERST, MASS. – Matt Kinash scored his first career goal for Alaska Anchorage in a 3-2 loss at No. 11 Massachusetts Saturday.
Kinash blasted a one-timer past Michael Hrabal at 6:28 of the first period to give the Seawolves the early lead. Brandon Lajoie and Ben Anderson each assisted on the goal.
Lucas Mercuri tied the game with a wrist shot high glove side at 9:25 of the first.
After a scoreless second period, the Minutemen scored a pair of goals late in the third period at 17:06 and 18:01.
The Seawolves pulled goalie Jared Whale with 90 seconds remaining and it paid off with a goal by Ben Almquist with one-minute remaining. Riley Thompson sent a pass from behind the net to Almquist who scored his sixth goal of the season.
The Seawolves were unable to score the equalizer in the final minute of play.
UMass out-shot UAA 38-21. Both teams finished scoreless on the powerplay with UAA 0-for-3 and UMass 0-5.
Alaska Anchorage will take an extended break before playing at Alaska Fairbanks in the fifth game of the Alaska Airlines Governor's Cup Jan. 13th.
