Seawolves tame Nanooks for 30-point win

ANCHORAGE – Senior guard Jahnna Hajdukovich scored all 14 of her points in the opening half and the Alaska Anchorage defense did the rest Saturday in a 69-39 women's basketball victory over Alaska Fairbanks at the Alaska Airlines Center.

The Seawolves (14-7, 6-6 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) also got 10 points, five rebounds and three assists with no turnovers from sophomore guard as they won for the 17th straight time at home against the Nanooks (4-15, 1-11).

UAF was led by 13 points from guard Sam Tolliver, but the visitors shot just 23 percent (11 of 47), committed 23 turnovers and were outrebounded 44-35.

"We came out extremely focused defensively and really didn't allow them any easy looks in the first half," said UAA head coach Ryan McCarthy, whose team equaled the program's sixth-fewest points allowed in the first half against an NCAA Div. II opponent, grabbing a 34-12 lead at the break. "I was also pleased with the way we were able to spread the offense around tonight, with everyone making significant contributions."

After snapping a 28-game losing streak to the Seawolves on Jan. 7 in Fairbanks, the Nanooks could never get rolling in the rematch, falling behind 18-7 after one quarter.

UAA wasn't challenged after halftime, building its lead as high as 66-32 on Nicole Pinckney's bank shot with 2:48 to play.

Hajdukovich shot 5 of 9 from the field (4-7 3FG) and tied Kimani Fernandez with a team-high six rebounds, while Rachel Ingram tallied nine points on 3-of-7 three-point shooting and two assists off the bench.

Senior forward Vishe' Rabb had seven points, five rebounds and two assists, sophomore forward Kate Robertson had six points and five rebounds, and junior point guard Anaiah Moore delivered five assists and a career-high five steals.

Now alone in fifth place in the GNAC standings, the Seawolves play four of their final six regular-season games on the road, starting Thursday (5 p.m. AST) against Northwest Nazarene in Nampa, Idaho. Surf to GoSeawolves.com for live video and stats links.
