ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Sept. 15) – Senior
Nicole Blue slammed 18 kills and junior setters
Kadyn Osborne and
Makana Eleneki combined for big days Friday to lead the Alaska Anchorage volleyball team to a 25-14, 25-22, 25-14 sweep of Union in the Reddie-Tiger Invitational at the Duke Wells Center.
The Seawolves (6-7) got 20 assists from Osborne and 15 assists, six digs and two aces from Eleneki as the pair piloted a .330 to .055 hitting advantage. Junior outside hitter
Bethany Tuchardt added eight kills on .429 hitting and junior middle blocker
Leilani Elder had seven kills as UAA snapped a three-match losing skid.
The Bulldogs (1-8) were led by 10 kills on .368 hitting from Reese Owens, but the rest of the Tennesseeans managed just 15 kills on negative hitting.
UAA took control when Blue ripped a kill and Eleneki served nine straight points to turn a 7-7 first-set tie into a 17-7 lead.
The second set would be a tighter affair, featuring seven ties and five lead changes. Owens gave her team a 16-15 edge with a kill, but a Seawolf timeout stopped Union's momentum, and Blue started a 5-0 run with two straight kills and a block assist with Elder. Two consecutive Bulldog kills kept them within 23-22, before Elder claimed kills on the final two rallies.
The Seawolves were never challenged in the third, jumping to leads of 5-1 and 13-4, and cruising behind .424 (17 kills, 3 errors, 33 attacks) hitting in the frame.
Blue's 18 kills were one shy of her career high as the preseason all-conference pick hit .432, along with 10 digs, two assists and 17-of-17 serve receiving.
Osborne and Eleneki contributed to the hot-hitting performance by combining for six kills with no errors on seven swings, while sophomore libero
Madison Galloway had 10 digs and four assists.
Missing three regular starters, the Seawolves also got a big lift from freshman
Trinity Tatupu, who had four digs, two aces, and the first multi-kill outing of her career with five spikes.
The Seawolves travel across the street to the Sturgis Physical Education Center for a 2 p.m. ADT clash with tournament co-host Ouachita Baptist in the second of their four matches this weekend.
