Johnson extends point streak in loss

OXFORD, OHIO – Ryan Johnson extended his point streak to three games by scoring his first career for Alaska Anchorage but it wasn't enough as they fell at Miami (Ohio) Friday.

"thought we had solid road first period, but our penalty kill let us down again," said head coach Matt Shasby. "A lot of learning going on with so many new faces. We will be better tomorrow."

The Red Hawks scored on their first powerplay of the game with 42 seconds remaining in the first. Johnny Waldron fired a low shot past UAA goalie Greg Orosz for his first goal of the season.

Max Dukovac extended the Miami lead to 2-0 when he redirected a shot in front of the goal for a powerplay goal with 39 seconds remaining in the second period.

The third period opened with a furry of offense with both teams scoring in the opening minute.

Aiden Westin and Max Helgeson connected a pair of crisp passes to set-up Conner Marritt for this first goal of the season, and the 16th of his career, just 18 seconds into the final period.

The Red Hawks responded with their final goal of the game 32 seconds later when Conner Hutchison fired a shot from the blueline past Greg Orosz for his second goal of the season.

UAA made a strong push to tie the game late in the third period. The Seawolves pulled the goalie while on the powerplay and the gamble paid off as Ryan Johnson scored his first career goal with a blast high over the glove of Bruno Bruveris with 1:25 remaining. Logan Acheson collected his second assist of the season on the goal.

Unfortunately, the Seawolves could not score the equalizer as they dropped their third straight game.

Orosz finished with 18 saves.

Alaska Anchorage out-shot Miami 27-21.

The Red Hawks finished 2-for-5 on the powerplay, and the Seawolves were 1-for-7.

The win was the first for Miami in the four-game all-time series.

The two teams will close out the season series Saturday at 3 pm AT.
