HONOLULU (Nov. 9) – Former Alaska prep stars
Hasaan Herrington and
Parker Kroon combined for 39 points on career-high scoring efforts, but it wasn't enough for the Alaska Anchorage men's basketball team Saturday in a 91-69 loss to Chaminade at McCabe Gymnasium.
The Seawolves (2-5) got 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting, six rebounds and three assists from Herrington as the East Anchorage product doubled his previous scoring high. Kroon, a redshirt freshman from Wasilla, came off the bench for 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting (5-7 3FG) in his first game against NCAA Div. II competition, helping Alaskans account for 85 percent of the team's scoring.
The Silverswords (2-0) were led by 24 points and five rebounds from guard Jackson Last as the Pacific West Conference club shot 55 percent (33-60) from the field, making 10 of 22 from long range.
UAA fell behind early and trailed 38-18 at halftime before making a push. After dishing an assist on a Kroon three-pointer, senior forward
Luke Devine (Wasilla HS) picked a Silversword pocket at midcourt and cruised in for a layup to make it 39-25. The Seawolves would get no closer, however, despite shooting 59 percent (19-32) in the second half.
Junior forward
Bishop Tosi (Anchorage/Bartlett HS) had nine points on 3-of-3 shooting, five rebounds, three assists and no turnovers, while Devine had six points (3-6 FG) and a pair of steals. Sophomore forward
Sloan Lentfer (Anchorage/Grace Christian HS) added four points (2-2 FG) off the bench.
The Seawolves get a weekend off before facing Portland Bible for games Nov. 23-24 at the Alaska Airlines Center. Find tickets and more at GoSeawolves.com.
