Hockey hosts Augustana this week

Alaska Anchorage will host Augustana in a pair of games this week at the Avis Alaska Sports Complex. This week's games will be the final home games in 2024 for the Seawolves. 

Series
Alaska Anchorage is 1-1-0 all-time against Augustana. Last season the Seawolves won the first meeting against the Vikings, 6-5 in overtime, and dropped the second game 3-0.  

Coach Shasby
Head coach Matt Shasby enters his third season leading the Seawolves. The Anchorage, native has a 27-47-5 mark as the UAA bench boss. Shasby will be assisted this season by Chris Kamal, Aaron McPheters and Vincent Pietrangelo

First Goal
A pair of defensemen, Will Schimek and Pavol Funtek, each scored their first career goals last week. Schimek scored the first goal in Alaska Anchorage's 4-1 win at Stonehill. Funtek scored the first goal in Alaska Anchorage's 4-2 loss at Merrimack. 

Three Points
Freshman Dylan Contreras tallied a point in all three games for the Seawolves last week. He scored a goal in both of the Seawolve's wins and added an assist in the loss. 

Penalty Kill
UAA is 4-2-1 when it holds its opponents scoreless on the powerplay and 0-9-1 when it gives up a power-play goal. 

First Assist
The Seawolves had four players earn their first assists of the season last week. Adam Parsons recorded an assist for his first career point in last week's 4-2 loss at Merrimack. JP Steele recorded an assist for his first point for the Seawolves in last week's 3-1 win at Merrimack. Gunnar VanDamme and Matt Johnson each tallied their first assists of the season last week. 

Score First
UAA is 4-1-2 this season when it scores first and 0-10-0 when its opponent scores first. 

Last Time Out
Alaska Anchorage won two of three road games last week. Alaska Anchorage defeated Stonehill 4-1 and split a two-game series with Merrimack dropping the first game 4-2 and winning the second 3-1.      

Looking Ahead
Alaska Anchorage will travel to Hanover, N.H. for the Ledyard Classic. Alaska Anchorage will face Dartmouth in the first game and then either Providence or Northeastern.
