Gilson's three points secure win

ST. CHARLES, MO. – William Gilson scored one goal and added two assists to lead the University of Alaska Anchorage to a 5-3 win at Lindenwood University Friday.

The win was the 10th of the season for the Seawolves, the most wins for the program since 2015-15.

"I thought we played a solid road game until the final six minutes," said head coach Matt Shasby. "Our powerplay needs to be better tomorrow if we want to get another win."

UAA finished 0-for-5 on the powerplay and held LU scoreless on all three of their powerplays.

Connor Marritt opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season at 12:01 of the first period with an assist from William Gilson.

Matt Johnson capitalized on a turnover by the Lions in their defensive zone to score his first goal of the season unassisted.

Drew Kuzma got the Lions on the scoreboard with his fifth goal of the season at 14:40, but William Gilson answered with his third goal of the season exactly three minutes later to give the Seawolves a 3-1 lead at the second intermission.

Maximilion Helgeson scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season thanks to assists from Ben Almquist and Gilson at 5:25 of the third.

Lindenwood mounted a comeback scoring a pair of goals just 28 seconds apart with 5:28 remaining, but Matt Allen scored the empty-net goal with one-minute remaining.

UAA had eight players record a point in the win.

Alaska Anchorage finished with a lopsided lead in shots 48-21.

Jared Whale made 18 saves in his eighth win of the season.

Alaska Anchorage and Lindenwood will close out the weekend series Saturday.
