Gymnasts welcome eight for 2025 campaign

ANCHORAGE (Aug. 14) – The Alaska Anchorage gymnastics program will welcome eight newcomers in for the 2025 season as head coach Marie-Sophie Boggasch unveiled her team's roster for the upcoming campaign Wednesday.

Adding to perhaps the most diverse groups of collegiate gymnasts in the nation, the newest Seawolves hail from five different states and three foreign nations.

2025 UAA Gymnastics Newcomers
Maribelle Albert (Freshman / Wyalusing, Pa. / homeschool / Endless Mountains Gymnastics)
A Level 10 competitor since 2019, Albert was a JO Region 7 Championships qualifier in 2023 and Developmental National Program qualifier in 2022. She earned all-around victories at the 2023 Magical March and City of Lights meets.
Coach Boggasch says: "As a Level 10 national qualifier and a senior elite compulsory qualifier, Maribelle has an incredibly wide range of skills to offer across all four events. Our fans will especially enjoy the uniqueness and style of her routines."

Hannah Boyd (Freshman / Plymouth, Minn. / Wayzata HS / Revolution Gymnastics)
Boyd has competed at Level 10 her final three years of high school, earning a spot at the 2024 Women's Developmental Program L10 national meet. She placed top-5 on all four events – including bronze on beam and fourth all-around – in her division at the 2024 JO Region 4 Championships, and made the podium on all four events to all-around runner-up at the 2024 Minnesota State meet.
Coach Boggasch says: "Hannah is a strong all-arounder and brings a great combination of difficulty and execution to the table. After seeing her compete at nationals, we were eager to have her join UAA. Her strengths as a competitor perfectly align with the needs of our team."

Grace Costello (Graduate transfer / Aberdeen, N.J. / St. John Vianney HS / William & Mary)
Costello comes north after four collegiate campaigns at fellow Div. I program William & Mary, where she earned Second Team All-Gymnastics East Conference honors on beam in 2024 and on bars in 2023. She brings career highs of 9.775 on vault, 9.8 on bars, 9.825 on beam, 9.8 on floor and 38.650 all-around.
Coach Boggasch says: "Grace will add outstanding consistency and experience across all four apparatus. After competing in Alaska with her previous institution, she developed a passion for our state, and we are ecstatic she chose UAA for her post-graduate education."

Jamilia Duffus (Sophomore transfer / Kingston, Jamaica / Immaculate Conception HS / Talladega)
Another transfer, Duffus joins the Seawolves after a solid rookie campaign at Talladega, where she contributed on bars and vault. She posted the Tornadoes' second-best average (9.450) and NQS (9.580) on bars, twice earning season-high 9.7s, and she tallied 9.475 or better on seven of eight vaults, including season-high 9.725s at Bridgeport and Alabama.
Coach Boggasch says: "After a heart-breaking program elimination of the gymnastics team at Talladega College, where she spent her freshman season, we are honored to provide Jamilia with a new home. She is a remarkable gymnast who we anticipate boosting our lineups on vault and bars."

Jordan Grindol (Freshman / Sulpher, La. / Gymnastics ETC)
At Level 10 since 2019, Grindol competed from 2021-23 at the NGA nationals meet as an all-arounder. This most recent season, she swept all four events and the all-around at both the Louisiana State NGA Championships and the NGA Southern Classic, posting a career-best 37.525 all-around at the Southern Classic.
Coach Boggasch says: "A multiple NGA national champion, Jordan is a powerful newcomer who produces amazing amplitude in her gymnastics. We look forward to seeing her transition to college gymnastics as she becomes a vital part of our team."

Kacey Prately (Freshman / Bristol, England / Oldfield School / The Academy of Gymnastics)
Prately brings extensive international experience, having competed for English and UK national squads since 2019. In 2023, she helped England to a fifth-place team finish at the prestigious Leverkusen Cup, and she was 15th in the all-around with a 47.450 score at the 2023 Senior British Championships.
Coach Boggasch says: "Watching Kacey's exceptional lines and presentation is a joy. We consider her to become a standout on multiple events. On bars she comes in with a high difficulty and impressive flight elements."

Grace Wellington (Freshman / Auckland, New Zealand / Diocesan School for Girls / Tristar Gymnastics)
Wellington earned top-four placements on vault, beam and floor at the 2023 New Zealand Championships, including silver on vault and bronze on beam. She competed against international fields this spring at the Koper and Varna challenge cup meets in Europe, and previously earned the New Zealand Secondary Schools' national title on floor.
Coach Boggasch says: "We are thrilled to welcome another gymnast from the southern hemisphere to our team. Her exceptional performance qualities particularly on floor, and her international experience competing for New Zealand will benefit our team in various ways."

Verena Wong (Freshman / Aiea, Hawaii / Aiea HS / Rainbow Gymnastics Academy)
Wong ascended to Level 10 in 2023, taking a beam title at the Rainbow Classic and competing all-around at the JO Region 2 Championships. She excelled at Level 9 with top-two placings in her division at the 2022 Region 2 meet, and won vault at the 2022 Hawaii State Championships.
Coach Boggasch says: "Adding our second gymnast from Hawaii, we are delighted to welcome Verena to UAA. Her impeccable execution will be a staple contribution for our team. After two previous visits to the 49th State, we can't wait to make Alaska her home."
