Seawolf gymnasts lead nation in team GPA

MARLBORO, N.J. – The Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team made history in 2023-24, leading the nation in combined grade-point average for the first time with a sterling 3.8678 mark. UAA edged fellow Mountain Pacific Sports Federation member Southern Utah (3.8584) and San Jose State (3.8295) for the top spot in the annual rankings published by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association.

The Seawolves took top honors thanks to eight student-athletes with 4.00 GPAs, led by upperclassmen Montana Fairbairn, Jessica Johnson, Emily Walker, Brooklyn Kopsack and Ariana DeSouza. Overall, 19 of UAA's 20 eligible student-athletes qualified for WGCA individual honors (3.50+ GPA), giving the Seawolves the third-highest percentage of team members.

This marks UAA's second top-two placement in the WCGA's academic rankings in three years, along with a second-place showing in 2021-22.
