UAA dominates Felician in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS (Sept. 12) – Pin hitters Larssen Anderson and Bethany Tuchardt powered an efficient Alaska Anchorage offense with 10 kills apiece Thursday in a 25-21, 25-14, 25-7 volleyball victory over Felician at the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic at the Patty Center.

The Seawolves (4-4) also got a combined 34 aces, six aces and 14 digs from setters Hannah Trotter and Kadyn Osborne as they registered season bests in attack percentage (.294), opponent attack percentage (.024) and aces (12).

The Golden Falcons (2-3) – from Lodi, N.J., and the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference – were led by five kills from Ashanna Caviness in the first-ever meeting between the programs.

"We're continuing to make improvements that we need before conference play starts," said UAA coach Stacie Meisner. "We'll need to stay sharp the rest of the weekend and continue to improve against two more competitive teams."

Despite leading through much of the opening set, the Seawolves had to work hard to finish the Golden Falcons, who used a 3-0 run to forge a 19-19 tie and force a timeout. Still knotted at 21-21, UAA got a kill by Tuchardt and an ace from Sydney Johnson to retake control, and finished a 4-0 run with a kill from Leilani Elder on set point.

UAA dominated the final two frames, outhitting Felician .333 to .125 in the second and .261 to -.160 in the third. The Seawolves finished with a whopping 49-19 advantage in digs, marking their fewest allowed since 14 in a sweep of Concord on Sept. 6, 2019.

Felician's seven points in the third set were also the fewest by a UAA team since Oct. 15, 2022 against Montana State Billings.

Anderson matched her career-best .533 attack percentage as she topped the .350 plateau for the fourth time this year, while Tuchardt connected at a .333 clip and added two block assists. Elder had seven kills on season-best .500 hitting and three total blocks, while junior libero Madison Galloway made a match-high 11 digs and dished five assists.

The Seawolves face another first-time foe Friday when they play Slippery Rock in an 11 a.m. first serve at the Patty Center. Find live links for video and stats at GoSeawolves.com.
