Akok Machar had 16 points and five steals to lead a balanced effort for the Alaska Anchorage basketball team Friday in an 85-58 victory over Evergreen State at the Alaska Airlines Center.
The Seawolves (1-2) also got 12 points apiece from junior guard
Elijah Mobley and senior forward
John McFadden as they outshot the visitors .585 to .357 and forced 27 turnovers.
The Geoducks, who counted the game as an exhibition, were led by 14 points and six assists from wing Tony Frohlich-Fair and 13 points from Gabriel Wigginton.
UAA controlled things from the outset, holding Evergreen without a field goal for the opening five minutes to build a 18-2 lead.
The Geoducks – an NAIA program from Olympia, Wash. – stayed within 40-21 at halftime but could not get any closer than a 44-27 deficit early in the second half.
Machar shot 6 of 12 from the field and dished three assists, while McFadden earned a career scoring high for the second straight game, knocking down 6 of 7 shots.
